Containing about .2354 oz of pure gold, the Pre 1933 British Sovereign Gold Coin design is nothing short of elegance.  The obverse coin features the design of King George while the reverse features Saint George who is slaying a dragon. This design was made possible by Benedetto Pistrucci. This coin was struck in the year 1817 and named after the English Gold Sovereign.  While the British Government started to promote the usage of the sovereign in trade, during the 1850’s until about 1932 many mints such as the Australia, Canada, South Africa and India struck them as well.
